Most stores blocking ChatGPT never decided to

A measurement of 810 US ecommerce domains — 7 September 2026.

61%

of the 720 stores that answered an ordinary browser refused a request identifying itself as GPTBot, OpenAI's crawler. That is 440 of 720.

86%

of those refusals were never declared. 379 of the 440 stores refusing GPTBot have no rule against it in robots.txt. Their servers refuse a crawler their published policy still welcomes.

What a Free AI Visibility Check Gives You

Three things, on one page, within 24 hours.

  1. Prompt results Five prompts a real customer in your category would type, run across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers, with screenshots. Whether you're named, and who is named instead.
  2. Crawler access Whether GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and the rest get a 200 or a 403 from your store. This is where we most often find stores that have been invisible for months without knowing.
  3. Raw-HTML gaps For five key pages, which facts about your products (price, availability, description, specifications, reviews) are missing from the HTML an assistant receives.

Not a generic report you could have generated yourself. Every line of it is about your store.

Fourteen Years of One Discipline. Three Places It Now Matters.

We've never built a store from scratch, never done a redesign, never branched into WordPress. What we have done for fourteen years is take an existing store apart, find out why it underperforms, and report back in metrics rather than adjectives.

It's the same work in all three cases. A machine arrives at your store and decides something about it: whether to recommend it, whether a customer can use it, whether it's worth waiting for. Our job is to make the answer yes.

Most of that experience is Magento, and if that's your platform we go deeper than most. → Magento speed optimization
